MANILA, Philippines - Boxing sensation and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao has been cleared of the contempt charges filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) against him last March.
In an eight-page resolution released by the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Koronadal City Prosecutor’s Office has dismissed the complaint for violation of Section 266 of National Internal Revenue Code against Pacquiao for his failure to present his tax records to the BIR.
Deputy City Prosecutor Arnold Cruz said the respondent should not be held liable for neglecting a BIR subpoena that he did not receive. He said the subpoena should be served to the person being summoned.
