Honest NAIA janitor lauded
MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City government yesterday presented an award to one of the city’s residents, a janitor at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) who returned P2.4 million in cash and valuables to a traveler last September.
Mayor Enrico Echiverri presented a plaque of recognition and commendation to Ronald Gadayan, who lives in Barangay 116 in West Grace Park, in a ceremony at the city hall.
The city council approved a resolution, sponsored by Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas president and Councilor Ricojudge Echiverri, lauding Gadayan’s deed.
Echiverri said NAIA records show that on Sept. 3, Gadayan found a designer bag under a chair at the south wing of the NAIA. He took the bag to his superior’s office, where authorities identified the bag’s owner as Francis Lloyd Chua Ty, who took a flight to Cebu earlier that day.
The younger Echiverri said it was but proper to acknowledge and publicly recognize Gadayan’s deed and present him to the people of Caloocan as a model worker.
