PNP to obey CA order on Parañaque shootout
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) vowed yesterday to comply with the order of the Court of Appeals (CA), which upheld an order to arrest eight police officers tagged in the death of a man and his seven-year-old daughter in a shootout in Parañaque City four years ago.
“The PNP will comply if the court orders the arrest of the eight (policemen). The HPG (Highway Patrol Group) is ready to follow whatever orders will be given by the court,” PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said.
Cerbo, however, said the PNP has yet to receive a copy of the appellate court’s order.
HPG spokesman Supt. Edwin Butacan said he has not seen the eight policemen involved in the case since last week. The respondents, however, have not been declared absent without leave or AWOL just yet.
“They (eight policemen) are active but they are not holding any position,” he said.
