Cabbie arrested for robbing passenger

MANILA, Philippines - A taxi driver was arrested after robbing a Chinese woman in Taguig City Sunday afternoon.

Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, head of Southern Police District (SPD), said Yuan Hu jumped from Efren Bantayan’s taxi near the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) compound.

She said she boarded Bantayan’s taxi after visiting her husband at the Metro Manila District Jail in Camp Bagong Diwa. She was supposed to go to a mall in Manila but Bantayan stopped along the East Service Road and allowed two men to rob her.

When Bantayan drove back to DOST, the victim jumped from the taxi and called for help. Police officers from the Southern Police District arrested Bantayan, who said his two accomplices escaped with the loot.
