MANILA, Philippines - Two brothers were arrested for reportedly attacking a police officer following a minor traffic incident in Valenzuela City Thursday.
Senior Superintendent Wilben Mayor, city police chief, said taxi driver John Emperado, 37, and his brother Jimmy, 42, were charged with direct assault on a person in authority before the city fiscal’s office for the attack on Police Officer 2 Juanito Zipagan.
Zipagan was driving a motorcycle on his way to work when he decided to stop by a carwash at the corner of Balag and Grande streets in Barangay Ugong at around 7:15 a.m. to have his motorbike cleaned.
A taxi (UVN-927) driven by John rear-ended Zipagan’s motorcycle. Zipagan, who was in police uniform, confronted John. Jimmy, who owns the carwash, came to his brother’s assistance and they reportedly beat up Zipagan. John allegedly tried to grab Zipagan’s service pistol but the policeman was able to escape.
Zipagan sought the assistance of fellow police officers at Police Community Precinct 8, who arrested the brothers.
