2 jump from jeepney during heist; 1 dead, 1 hurt

MANILA, Philippines - A 63-year-old woman died and a teenager was injured when they jumped from a moving jeepney to avoid being robbed along Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City Wednesday night.

Lerma Espino landed on the road head first and died on the spot, said Chief Inspector Rodel Marcelo, head of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

Another passenger, 16-year-old Christian Sembrano, was also injured when he jumped. Marcelo said the De La Salle University student is confined at St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Marcelo said the robber ran off, failing to get anything from the passengers.
