MANILA, Philippines - An alleged drug pusher suspected of killing a policeman in Tondo last June was killed in a reported shootout with Manila Police District (MPD) police officers Thursday.
Ogie Abid, 29, was identified by MPD homicide chief Senior Inspector Joey de Ocampo as among the men wanted for killing Senior Police Officer 2 Teofilo Panlilio and his alleged lover in June.
Panlilio and the woman were missing for several days before their bloated bodies were recovered days apart in the waters of Manila Bay off Navotas. Their bodies bore signs of torture.
SPO2 Ronald Gallo said an MPD Station 2 team, led by Senior Inspector John Guiagui responded at around 4 p.m. after receiving calls from concerned citizens that armed drug pushers were in the area.
The police officers tried to apprehend the three men, two of whom jumped into the water. Abid reportedly drew his revolver and shot at the pursuing lawmen. He died on the spot when the policemen retaliated.
However, Abid’s widow, Arbania, said there was no shootout and her husband was killed without a fight.
