MANILA, Philippines - Candidates of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) in Caloocan City, led by Rep. Oscar Malapitan, filed yesterday their certificates of candidacy at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) district two office.

Malapitan filed his candidacy for mayor to replace outgoing Mayor Enrico Recom Echiverri, who will run for Congress in the 2013 elections. Echiverri will run against Malapitan’s son, city Councilor Dale Gonzalo, for congressman of the city’s first district.

Echiverri’s son, National Liga ng mga Barangay president and city Councilor Ricojudge Echiverri, will file his certificate of candidacy for mayor today together with candidates for councilor running under the Liberal Party-Nationalista Party-Nationalist People’s Coalition (LP-NP-NPC) ticket.

Vice Mayor Egay Erice is also expected to run for mayor against Malapitan and the younger Echiverri. Malapitan’s running mate is Antonio Mariano Almeda, who ran for Congress under the NP in the last polls.
