MANILA, Philippines - For allegedly refusing to pass the karaoke microphone, a 32-year-old man was stabbed dead inside a bar in Las Piñas City on Monday night.
Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona identified the victim as Edwin Miranda of Barangay Manuyo. His alleged killer, Angel Julio, 60, was arrested shortly after the incident.
According to initial reports, Julio and Miranda went to the Padrino’s Karaoke Bar and Restaurant along Padre Diego street in Barangay Manuyo to unwind at about 11:30 p.m.
Police said Julio was drunk when he asked Miranda to hand over the karaoke microphone. Miranda refused, prompting Julio to shout and curse at him. Waiters broke up a fight that ensued, and Julio hurriedly left the bar. He was armed with a knife when he returned and stabbed Miranda repeatedly.
Miranda was rushed to the Las Piñas District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Julio is being held at the Las Piñas City police headquarters while investigators prepare to charge him with murder.
