Erap '101%' sure to run for Manila mayor
MANILA, Philippines - Former President Joseph Estrada said yesterday he is “101 percent” sure to run for Manila mayor in next year’s midterm elections.
In an interview with radio station dzRH, Estrada said he will file his certificate of candidacy either on Oct. 1 or 2. He said he will not begrudge President Aquino if he decides to support the election bid of incumbent Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, who is a member of the Liberal Party.
“I have anyway the support of Vice President Binay, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and 29 out of the 36 Manila councilors are with me already. This is not to mention my running mate, Vice Mayor Isko Moreno,” Estrada said.
Estrada said Lim choice for his running mate, sixth district Councilor Lou Veloso, has not accepted yet his offer “so the mayor practically has no running mate yet.”
Estrada said recent surveys conducted in Manila showed that the Estrada-Moreno tandem enjoys a 70 percent winning margin against Lim and whoever will be his candidate for vice mayor.
He said he has been meeting and finalizing their lineup with Manila councilors at his new house in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
