MANILA, Philippines - A total of 167 public utility vehicle drivers were apprehended in Caloocan for the month of August alone, Mayor Enrico Echiverri said yesterday.
He said most of the violators are drivers of passenger jeepneys, tricycles and pedicabs who turned some streets into illegal terminals, hampering the free flow of traffic.
Francis Mendoza of the Metro Manila Development Authority-North Metro Sector said yesterday truck and bus drivers plying the Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela should load and unload only at designated areas.
Motorists have complained that several passenger buses are often seen lining up at the corner of C-4 Road and Dagat-Dagatan Avenue in Malabon during rush hours. Cargo trucks reportedly illegally occupy the long stretch of Dagat-Dagatan Avenue.
