Lawman faces axe for robbing US Navy man

MANILA, Philippines - National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina recommended yesterday summary dismissal proceedings against a police officer accused of robbing a United States Navy man of P18,000.

Senior Police Officer 1 Edgar Mejia, 39; and his alleged accomplice, Noel Nocino, 24, were charged with robbery with intimidation Monday before the Marikina City prosecutor’s office based on the complaint of Don Ancheta.

The serviceman said he was at aa bar when the two men and another cohort accused him of possessing illegal drugs, searched him, and took his money. Mejia and Nocino were arrested a few meters away from the bar.
