Pediatricians laud lawmakers for studying milk law
Manila, Philippines - An association of pediatricians and infant nutritionists hailed members of the House of Representatives for their efforts to study the Milk Code of the Philippines as they consider amendments to the existing law.
The Infant and Pediatric Nutrition Association of the Philippines (IPNAP), in a statement, said the deliberations in Congress for proposed amendments to Executive Order 51, the Milk Code enacted in 1988, served as an avenue to provide Filipino mothers with information and awareness on the health and well-being of their children.
The bill, authored by several legislators including Cagayan de Oro Congressman Rufus Rodriguez, seeks to amend certain provisions of the Milk Code to be able to address the changing lifestyle of Filipino mothers and their children.
The group said its members committed to the World Health Organization Code and EO 51, which recommend exclusive breastfeeding for infants and complementary feeding starting from six months.
