MANILA, Philippines - Burglars broke into three houses in Las Piñas and Parañaque and took more than P4 million in cash, jewelry and gadgets, police said yesterday.

Senior Inspector Albert Arevalo said security guard Julio Constante noticed that the front door of Vickie Sthoner’s house in Pelayo Village, Barangay Talon Uno in Las Piñas was ajar when he reported for work Wednesday.

Constante immediately notified his wife Leonarda, the apartment caretaker, and Sthoner, who discovered that she lost her vault, P2 million worth of jewelry, P40,000 cash, a hand gun, and gadgets worth P40,000.

Arevalo, city police investigation chief, said Sthoner had been out of her house since Sunday and went home only after being notified of the burglary.

In Parañaque City, two houses in Sun Valley Subdivision were burglarized last Sunday.

The first incident took place about 11 a.m. when the housemaid of businessman Michael Abcede, 29, noticed that the front door of their house was ajar.

“She peeped through the window (and saw that) the house of her employer had been burglarized,” said Senior Superintendent Billy Beltran in a police report on Sept. 4.

The maid called Abcede, who rushed home and discovered that he lost P500,000, a laptop worth P30,000, a cell phone worth P30,000 and other gadgets worth P7,000.

Police said the burglars entered by jumping over the fence and destroying the lock and iron grill of the main door.

Another burglary was discovered in the same village at about 7:40 p.m. the same day.

Roberto Sison, 41, said he was fetching his sons in Taguig when the burglars entered his house by jumping over the fence and destroying the lock and iron grill of the main door using a bolt cutter.

Beltran, in a separate report, said the burglars took jewelry worth P500,000; two MacBooks valued at P100,000; an iPad; and a television set worth P25,000 from Sison’s house.
