Caloocan to step up disease prevention drive

- Pete Laude - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri directed yesterday local health officials to intensify their information campaign on diseases most common during rainy days.

He issued the order after the Department of Health reported that cases of leptospirosis have gone up by 70.18 percent, with 2,374 cases listed from January to Aug. 11. He expressed alarm on the rise of leptospirosis cases, claiming that last year, the DOH listed only 1,395 cases during the same period.

Echiverri also ordered local health officials to coordinate with Councilor Ricojudge Echiverri, Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas president, in stepping up their information campaign.

He tasked the city health workers to help educate residents on disease prevention.
