2 rob suspects slain in Tondo shootout
MANILA, Philippines - Two unidentified men who tried to rob a businessman as he was fixing a flat tire were killed by policemen during a shootout in Tondo, Manila Friday night.
Police said the first robber was described to be between 30 and 35 years old, 4’9” tall, and sported several tattoos on his back, among them “Pingo Flores Alegrea” and “Commando Pacia.”
The second robber was estimated to be between 35 and 40 years old. 5’2” tall, and bore a “Sputnik” tattoo on his back.
Senior Police Officer 1 Charles Duran reported that Ronald Glenn Gumapas was replacing the tire of his newly bought sport utility vehicle at around 10:35 p.m. along a dimly lit portion of Road 10 when the robbers struck.
A team from the Manila Police District Station 2 saw the incident and shouted at the robbers to surrender. They attacked the lawmen, triggering a shootout.
Investigators recovered a .357 Smith and Wesson and a .38 caliber revolver, both unregistered.
