Manila, Philippines - A businesswoman and her two sons were attacked in Binondo, Manila yesterday morning after buying vegetables in Divisoria.
Police said Juana Ipil, 49, was on her way home to Barangay San Agustin in Trece Martires, Cavite with her son Jojohnny, 25, and daughter Jennifer, 27, in their van when two unidentified drunk men blocked their path at around 1:20 a.m.
Jennifer tried to talk to the men and offered them money. The men beat her and one of the attackers shot her.
The other attacker started beating Jojohnny, who was in the driver’s seat, and then shot him. The bullet ripped through Jojohnny’s body and hit Juana in her left thigh. Jojohnny slumped on the steering wheel and lost control of the vehicle, running over Jennifer, who was lying on the pavement.
Police Officer 3 Bernardo Cayabyab said Jojohnny was rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Jennifer and Juana, on the other hand, were brought to the Mary Johnston Hospital and are undergoing medical treatment.
The two attackers fled on foot and are the subjects of a manhunt, Cayabyab said.
