Low-pressure area may become 'Igme'

MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau yesterday said there is a 70 percent probability that an active low-pressure area (ALPA) would develop into a tropical depression today and it would be called “Igme.”

Weather forecaster Manny Mendoza said the latest weather disturbance might intensify into a tropical depression because it has a “good circulation.” The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the ALPA was last monitored to be at 360 kilometers east-northeast of Aparri, Cagayan.

“The ALPA’s location moves. It is like a ‘yoyo.’ It would go down and then move to the right and then to the left. This is the case because there is a high-pressure area that blocks its path and prevents it from moving forward,” Mendoza said.

It is expected to bring heavy rains in the extreme northern Luzon. There would also be rains in northern and central Luzon. As for Metro Manila, there would be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
