QC passes industrial peace ordinance
MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has signed into law an ordinance promoting and maintaining industrial peace in the city.
The mayor said with the passage of the ordinance, it will be easier to address pressing labor issues in the city such as retrenchment, disputes and rallies.
He considers the ordinance institutionalizing the QC Tripartite Industrial Peace Council a vital legislation toward the promotion of economic development in the city.
“We firmly believe that this ordinance will all the more strengthen the city’s economy,” he added.
With the institutionalization of the council, all those in the city’s labor and business sectors must be represented in the council, which shall serve as a consultative body for labor management programs and issues, he said.
Under the ordinance, the mayor shall sit as council chairman, with the Department of Labor and Employment-National Capital Region head to sit as co-chairman.
The ordinance is principally authored by Councilor Dorothy Delarmente, who described tripartism as key to productivity, competitiveness and sustainable employment opportunities. “Industrial peace can only be attained through meaningful tripartite consultations among labor, employer and government sectors in the formulation and implementation of the labor and social policies,” Delarmente said.
