Maynilad reduces water supply due to turbidity

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - West Zone water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services has reduced the water supply in North Caloocan; Fairview, Commonwealth, Novaliches in Quezon City and Valenzuela because of the high turbidity level in the Angat Dam, where it obtains its raw water.

In a water service advisory issued at noon yesterday, Maynilad said that as of Wednesday morning, the turbidity level of the water at the Angat Dam has reached 1,200 nephelometric turbidity units (NTU). The normal turbidity level of water at the Angat Dam during the rainy season is 100 NTU.

Maynilad said that to maintain the quality of water to its consumers and to protect the integrity of its water treatment plant, it had to reduce its water production from 2,100 million liters per day to 1,900 MLD.

It said that because of the high turbidity level and the reduced water production, consumers in North Caloocan, Fairview, Commonwealth, Novaliches and Valenzuela reported water discoloration.

“After conducting flushing operations in these areas, we were able to mitigate the water discoloration. We are also continuously monitoring the water quality in these areas through our 225 sampling points,” Maynilad said in the advisory.

“Unfortunately, our reduced water production resulted in low water pressure to no water supply in the highly elevated portions of Quirino, Roosevelt, South Caloocan, Malabon and Navotas. We have 15 water tankers providing additional water supply to the affected customers. We are prepared to deploy more should it become necessary,” it added.

Customers may contact the Maynilad hotline 1626 and 981-3459 to 61 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
