Drug user gunned down

MANILA, Philippines - Two armed men gunned down an alleged 61-year-old drug user in Marikina City yesterday.

Rolando Cruz, of 4 Sta. Teresita Village in Barangay Malanday, sustained a gunshot wound in the chest and died while being treated at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.

Witnesses said his two assailants casually walked to a waiting motorcycle and sped off after the shooting incident.

Cruz and his cousin were watching the raging waters at the Marikina River when the gunman approached the victim and shot him at close range.

Police said the victim’s cousin and other residents were caught by surprise and were unable to go after the gunman and his companion. Witnesses said Cruz is a known drug user in their neighborhood.
