Maltese man arrested for illegal recruitment

MANILA, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested and charged a Maltese man for large-scale illegal recruitment and estafa for promising non-existent jobs in his country to four Filipinos in exchange for P255,000.

Dominic Gauchi Chircop, 49, a tourist currently residing on Dita street in Western Bicutan, Taguig City, was arrested in an entrapment Wednesday.

The NBI said they received a complaint from Minda Quiambao and three others that Chircop promised them work in Malta as security guard, call center agent, office worker and housekeeper with a daily wage of 35 euros a day.

The victims said they paid Chircop P255,000 he demanded to cover placement and processing fees as well as plane tickets, but he failed to deliver on his promise and demanded more money.
