MANILA, Philippines - The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) yesterday lauded the recent decision of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) headed by Francisco Duque III to dismiss from service nine immigration officers involved in human trafficking.
The immigration officers were found guilty of grave misconduct, dishonesty and gross neglect of duty based on substantial evidence.
IACAT head and Justice officer-in-charge secretary Jose Vicente Salazar said the CSC decision “is a clear signal that we are serious in the campaign against all elements involved in or helping human trafficking syndicates.”
The case stemmed from an IACAT probe on the alleged irregularities committed by personnel from the Bureau of Immigrations at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport.
“The government will continue to aggressively prosecute perpetrators of human trafficking, especially government employees who deliberately band together with trafficking syndicates and use their office to carry out these unlawful acts,” Salazar said.
