Japanese runs amuck, kills 1, hurts 5

MANILA, Philippines - A Japanese man went on a shooting rampage, killing a debtor and wounding five others in separate incidents in Marikina City and San Mateo, Rizal on Sunday night.

Kunimitsu Matsuo did not resist arrest when cornered in a house in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Antipolo City, said Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Superintendent Miguel Laurel.

Laurel said Matsuo is undergoing investigation by the Marikina City police for the killing of Salvador Panim and the wounding of Orlando Corpuz, Evangeline Silot and her six-year-old grandchild Princess, Ronald Abuyog and his wife Nimfa.

Laurel said Matsuo and his wife, Elena, were engaged in a lending business. The victims were among his clients.

“We received reports that the Japanese national lost his cool because some of the victims failed to pay their debts as promised and his saved money is fast dwindling,” Laurel said in an interview.

Initial reports said that Matsuo allegedly shot Panim with a handgun on Meritt Street in Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Panim died while being rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center.

Matsuo proceeded to the homes of Corpuz and Silot and allegedly shot them.

Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director said, Matsuo then went to San Mateo to collect payment from the Abuyog couple. When he failed to get his money, the Japanese shot the Abuyogs.

SPO1 Buenero Cruz Jr. said Matsuo will be charged with murder and multiple frustrated murder. The suspect was detainedat the Marikina police jail.
