Manila, Philippines - The Bureau of Immigration has arrested a Swedish martial arts instructor for allegedly working in the country without permit and other necessary travel documents.
BI spokesperson Ma. Antonette Bucasas-Mangrobang said that Bjorn Karlsson was apprehended last July 18 by operatives of the bureau in San Juan City.
Karlsson works as an instructor of Krav Maga, a non-competitive form of martial arts.
“He (Karlsson) was apprehended for engaging in gainful employment without a working permit,” Mangrobang said.
BI records showed that the Swedish man arrived in the country last February and was only given a tourist visa.
Mangrobang said the foreigner violated the conditions of his stay here when he failed to secure a working permit from the BI.
The BI Intelligence Division has informed the Sweden embassy of Karlsson’s arrest.
He is currently detained at the BI jail in Taguig City.
