Manila, Philippines - A security guard shot himself in the neck in front of his co-workers at a convenience store in Barangay Kaligayahan, Quezon City yesterday morning.
Store manager Angie Yumol, 22, told police she had just arrived for work at the Mini Stop FC-Greenfields branch and had been arranging her hair in the backroom when security guard Joel Tumanon Jr. entered at around 5:20 a.m.
Yumol said she was with four other male employees at the time, adding that Tumanon had just finished his duty and was supposed to go home.
Assistant store manager Eduardo Manahan, 30, was also in the back room when Tumanon asked for the gun. Manahan said he then took out a .38 caliber revolver from the steel cabinet but checked that the gun was not loaded before handing it to Tumanon.
He said that he saw the victim place something inside the gun and then point the gun at his neck but no bullet came out. Manahan said he tried to get the gun from Tumanon but the guard refused to let go. Tumanon reportedly pulled the trigger again, and this time the gun fired, killing the guard on the spot.
