MANILA, Philippines - A baby girl suffered second-degree burns when burning debris landed on her at the height of a fire that destroyed at least 10 houses in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City yesterday.
Inspector Francia Embalsado said Filsaint Collins Magalawis, two months old, was treated for burns on her head at the Mandaluyong City Medical Center and is out of danger.
Embalsado said members of the Magalawis family were asleep when the fire, caused by a lighted candle left unattended, broke out at their house in Welfareville Compound at around 1:45 a.m.
The baby was left behind in the bedroom as her family tried to put out the fire but failed. When her relatives noticed that debris had fallen on the baby’s head, they grabbed her and rushed her to the hospital.
The fire reached fifth alarm before it was put under control at around 2:24 a.m.
