Bus runs over sampaguita vendor
Manila, Philippines - A 70-year-old woman selling sampaguita was killed when she was run over by a bus along Lacson street in Sampaloc, Manila yesterday afternoon.
According to Senior Police Officer 4 Omar Mabborang, MRR Transport driver Alfonso Sollestre Jr., who plies the Manila to Infanta, Quezon route, was cruising along Lacson street’s southbound lane when the incident happened at around 1:30 p.m. He said he did not see vendor Pacita Romero cross the street.
Romero died on the spot. Witnesses said her head was crushed and she suffered fractures and wounds all over her body.
Mabborang said the bus driver will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. He added that they are waiting for Romero’s relatives to come to the Manila Police District’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, since it would be up to them to file a civil suit against the bus firm.
