3 robbers killed in Quezon City shootout
MANILA, Philippines - Three suspected robbers were killed in an encounter with police shortly after they held up an online betting establishment in Novaliches, Quezon City before dawn yesterday.
Police have yet to identify the slain suspects.
Two other suspects managed to escape, taking the loot amounting to more than P100,000 in cash, mobile phones and other valuables of the shop’s employees.
Initial investigation showed that the suspects barged into the shop along Quirino Highway in Barangay Gulod, Novaliches at around 2 a.m.
After the robbery, the suspects fled on board a white Toyota Revo without license plate, according to Superintendent Crisostomo Mendoza, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 4.
Policemen caught up with the suspects at the corner of Samonte Road and Sonny Belmonte Road in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon after a brief chase.
Instead of yielding, the robbers shot it out with the police, killing three suspects on the spot.
PO1 Romeo Nino said they recovered four handguns from the suspects.
