Caloocan barangay dengue 'hot spot' - DOH

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Health (DOH) reported yesterday that Barangay 17 in Caloocan City has been a dengue “hot spot” for four weeks now.

Dr. Eduardo Janairo, DOH director for National Capital Region (NCR), said a total of 1,057 dengue cases were recorded in Caloocan City from Jan. 1 to June 23 this year.

DOH records showed that 9,060 dengue cases with 39 deaths were recorded in Metro Manila, which is five percent higher compared to the 8,654 cases during same period last year. 

Quezon City accounted for most cases (2,591); followed by Manila (1,505); Parañaque City (573) and Pasig City (521).

Janairo said they are closely monitoring Barangay Karuhatan in Valenzuela City as it recorded a 233 percent increase in the number of dengue cases this year.

The DOH is targeting to roll out the “direct rapid reporting and response system” (DRRRS) on July 16 to prevent outbreaks of dengue in the metropolis.

Dr. Manuel Mapue, DOH regional medical dengue coordinator for Metro Manila, said that coordination with concerned stakeholders like hospitals and barangay officials is now going.
