Fire hits DepEd headquarters

- Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 30-minute fire broke out at the Department of Education (DepEd) building in Pasig City yesterday.

No one was injured in the fire, which started at the health and nutrition division office at the DepEd compound along Meralco Avenue at around 4:15 a.m.

Arson prober Fire Officer 2 Robert Maravilla said the blaze, which may have been caused by faulty wiring, destroyed P100,000 worth of property and reached second alarm before it was declared under control at around 4:45 a.m.

Using fire extinguishers, security guards battled the fire until firefighters arrived. The heavy rain prevented the fire from spreading towards adjacent buildings, Maravilla said.
