Man accused of parricide dies in hospital
MANILA, Philippines - The parricide case that the police filed against a former drug convict who hacked his wife to death seems to have died with him.
Chief Inspector Giovanni Martinez, intelligence chief of the Muntinlupa police, said Alfert Prado died Thursday night at the Ospital ng Muntinlupa.
The case against him is “likely to be dismissed,” Martinez said.
Prado was confined for more than a week after he stabbed himself in the abdomen while his neighbors tried to stop him from hurting his partner of 20 years, Emily Berganos.
Martinez said jealousy might have led Prado to kill Berganos using a 17-inch bolo last week. Berganos sustained hack wounds all over her body, with the largest wound in her neck.
Barangay officials from Sucat, Muntinlupa tried to talk to Prado but the suspect warned them against approaching him.
