Boy, tricycle driver hurt in Quezon City road rage shooting

MANILA, Philippines - A 13-year-old boy and a tricycle driver were wounded when a motorist fired his gun during a traffic altercation in Quezon City yesterday morning.

Superintendent Michael Macapagal, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 9, identified the victims as tricycle driver Marlon Cabuñag, 39, and Carlo Kyle Cuntapay, who was hit by stray bullets while walking on his way to school.

The still unidentified assailant, who was driving a white Mitsubishi L-300 van (UTA-657), escaped after the incident.

But a check with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) showed that the vehicle was registered under the name of Diosdado Picar, of Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City.

Macapagal, however, said they were still verifying if Picar was the one driving the van at the time of the incident.

The vehicle was traversing Kamias Road going to EDSA at 8 a.m. when the tricycle driven by Cabuñag blocked its path, prompting the suspect to alight from the van and confront Cabuñag.

At the height of their argument, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired shots, hitting Cabuñag and Cuntapay.
