Notorious robber slain
MANILA, Philippines - Police killed a notorious robber shortly after he victimized a call center agent in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Tuesday night.
Investigation by the Manila Police District (MPD)-homicide section showed that Ghileen Alacon, 22, was waiting for a ride at the corner of Samal street and Rizal Avenue at 10 p.m. when suspect Alvin Ramirez announced the heist.
Even with a knife pointed at her, Alacon resisted the holdup, resulting in a brief scuffle that caught the attention of patrolling barangay tanods.
Chief Inspector Daniel Buyao of the District Police Intelligence Operation Unit (DPIOU) and his colleagues, who were conducting an anti-criminality operation in the area, immediately responded to the commotion.
Buyao caught up with the fleeing Ramirez along Rizal Avenue.
However, the suspect pulled out a homemade gun and tried to shoot it out with the policemen, prompting the latter to shoot him.
Ramirez, who was a member of the Sputnik Gang, died of multiple gunshot wounds.
SPO2 Ronald Gallo described Ramirez as a notorious robber. Recovered from him were the cellular phone, undetermined cash and ATM cards of Alacon.
