Rob-rape suspect faces more raps
MANILA, Philippines - A man accused of breaking into houses in Marikina and Quezon City and robbing their occupants faces more charges after he was identified by one of his victims as the one who raped her.
Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Miguel Laurel said a 30-year-old woman tagged Reynaldo Santos, alias Diablo, during a confrontation at the Marikina City police headquarters over the weekend.
The woman said Santos and his companion identified themselves as power firm employees to gain entry into the house of her relative, an architect, in Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina City last May 14.
According to police reports, Santos and his companion hogtied the house’s seven occupants and took their cash, jewelry and personal belongings. The two men escaped after raping the victim.
Laurel said Marikina police officers are still trying to determine whether Santos and his companion are the same ones who raped a 16-year-old girl when they broke into her house in SSS Village in Barangay Concepcion Dos last week.
“The rape victim claimed Santos is similar to the suspect who raped her when she saw his picture in the rogues’ gallery,” Laurel said.
Laurel said two more robbery victims from Quezon City showed up at the Marikina police headquarters and identified Santos as among the men who robbed them.
According to Laurel, the prosecutor’s office recommended no bail for Santos, who was arrested for selling two sachets of shabu last Thursday.
“He probably would spend the rest of his life behind bars as additional cases are piling up against him,” he said, noting that the Marikina police are still calling up the persons whose calling cards and personal belongings were recovered from Santos.
