Cops save 6 teens from pimps

MANILA, Philippines - Police officers from the Manila Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) saved six teenagers, two of them pregnant, from a couple who had been forcing them to sell their bodies in front of a hotel in Manila.

Pedicab driver Marlon Agustin, 28, and his wife, Myla, were presented to the Manila prosecutor’s office yesterday for inquest for violating Republic Act 9208, the anti-human trafficking law.

The teenagers, aged 16 to 19, were turned over to the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development –National Capital Region.

Chief Inspector Carlo Magno Manuel, who heads the Manila CIDG, said they saved the minors at around 3:30 p.m. in front of a hotel at the intersection of Roxas Boulevard and P. Burgos street after posing as customers.
