Manila council allots P200 M for Tondo fire victims

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila City Council has passed a resolution authorizing the allocation of some P200 million for the relocation of 1,500 families affected by a fire that hit Isla Puting Bato in Tondo recently.

Councilor Dennis Alcoreza, author of the resolution, said the funds will be made available to finance the construction of houses and other needs of the residents.

The resolution was approved by Vice Mayor and city council presiding officer Isko Moreno and attested by lawyer Luch Gempis Jr., city council secretary.

Vice President Jejomar Binay, concurrent chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), earlier assured the fire victims that they will be transferred to government housing sites.

An initial 45 families have been relocated to Montalban, Rizal.
