UN body to review Phl rights record
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines’ human rights record will be subjected to a review today during the second Universal Periodic Review in the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva as several diplomatic missions have expressed interest to question the Philippines.
Ambassador Guy Ledoux, head of the European Union (EU) delegation in the Philippines, said yesterday that EU member states are among the countries to raise question about the human rights situation in the Philippines.
The United Kingdom is among the countries to raise question during the review of the Philippines’ human rights record.
The EU noted that while significant progress has been made in the area of human rights in the Philippines, but more needs to be done to effectively tackle shortcomings, in the area of impunity, extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.
