3 men rob ex-OFW, shoot Internet shop owner
MANILA, Philippines - A former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) lost some P150,000 in jewelry to three motorcycle-riding robbers who also shot an Internet shop owner during a noontime heist in Malabon City Saturday.
Police Officer 3 Melvin Medina said the robbers took three gold rings, a necklace and a bracelet from Romeo Mondido, 56, a resident of Barangay Longos.
Medina said Mondido was drinking with his friend, Pablo Almonicar, in front of his house at about 11:45 a.m. when they were approached by two men armed with pistols, who told the victim to hand over his jewelry.
The robbers ran to a waiting motorcycle driven by an accomplice. As the trio sped off to Lapu-Lapu Avenue, Mondido ran after them. One of the robbers shot at Mondido several times. All the shots missed Mondido, but a bullet hit Arnel Chavez, 30, in the right arm as he was sitting outside his Internet shop. Chavez was brought to the Metropolitan Medical Center for treatment.
Police recovered at least four cartridges and a slug for a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
