1 dead, 2 hurt in Quezon City shooting

- Michael Punongbayan -

MANILA, Philippines - One person was killed while two others were wounded in a shooting in Quezon City Saturday night.

A police report identified the fatality was Nestor dela Rosa, driver of a UV Express passenger van, while those who were hurt were Dela Rosa’s alleged killer, security guard Jonas Remedios, and barker Ronald Mangahas.

Senior Police Officer 1 Joel Gagaza said the incident happened at around 9:30 p.m.

Dela Rosa allegedly went to ask Remedios, then on duty, to pay a debt but got into a heated argument with him.

The security guard allegedly pulled out his gun and repeatedly shot the driver. The commotion attracted the attention of Jail Officer 1 Jerwin Evangelista, who was on his way to work. When Evangelista tried to intervene, Remedios allegedly shot at him but missed.

Evangelista retaliated and hit Remedios.

Mangahas was allegedly hit by a stray bullet during the exchange of gunfire and is undergoing treatment for gunshot wounds along with Remedios.
