MANILA, Philippines - Two inmates escaped the Manila City Jail (MCJ) before dawn yesterday.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has ordered a manhunt for Justin Bautista, 21, and Carlo Aquino, who bolted from the jail, which is beside the Manila Police District Station 3 in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Jail warden Superintendent Ruel Rivera issued a “shoot-to-kill” order, but refused to say how Bautista and Aquino broke out of the MCJ.
Bautista, a 21-year-old former hotel and restaurant management student of the Lyceum of the Philippines, is being detained while on trial for robbing and killing Mary Roxan Musngi, 20, a medical student of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, on July 24, 2010.
Aquino, on the other hand, is a Commando Gang member who is being tried for robbery.
Three days after Musngi was killed, police officers arrested Bautista, ex-convict Kenneth Capili, and a 16-year-old boy.
Capili was tagged as the mastermind and believed to be the one who stabbed Musngi and dragged her behind his motorcycle after they robbed her. Capili was killed after he allegedly grabbed the gun of his police escort after his arrest.
