IACAT, KBP to fight human trafficking
MANILA, Philippines - The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) joined forces yesterday to combat human trafficking in the country as they signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) that will make KBP help in the government’s awareness and education campaign.
IACAT chairperson Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and KBP chairman Herman Basbano led the MOA signing at the Hyatt Hotel in Manila yesterday.
“The battle we fight is not just against crimes and criminals. We are fighting a war against ignorance,” De Lima said.
Members of the KBP board of directors and representatives from the Presidential Communications Operations Office, Commission of Filipinos Overseas, and the Department of Interior and Local Government were present during the signing.
Justice Undersecretary Jose Vicente Salazar, who is in charge of the IACAT’s daily operations, said the “battle against human trafficking is nothing less than demanding and the help of an esteemed organization like the KBP assures that we shall prevail at day’s end.”
