Bus kills pregnant woman
MANILA, Philippines - A pregnant woman died after she was hit by a passenger bus along EDSA in Mandaluyong City on Tuesday night.
Cesar Bondoc, radio operator at the Metrobase of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), identified the victim as Evelyn de la Peña, 29.
The victim was crossing EDSA on her way to the Victor Potenciano Medical Center when she was struck by a Baclaran-bound Jayross Lucky Seven bus (TXF-729) driven by Mariano Battong, 45, of Lilac street, Fairview, Quezon City.
Bus conductor Lito Tumague told investigators that the bus was heading to Boni Avenue when he heard a thud coming from under the bus.
When the bus stopped, Tumague said he saw the victim’s body on the road.
A passing MMDA patrol team rushed the victim to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
The bus driver escaped after the accident. He is now being hunted by the police.
MMDA traffic discipline office chief Yves Gonzalez said the bus has been impounded.
