QC three-termers get more benefits

- Rhodina Villanueva -

MANILA, Philippines - Elected barangay officials in Quezon City who have served three consecutive terms will receive higher benefits under a new ordinance that took effect this month.

Ordinance SP-2133 series of 2011, amended four sections of Ordinance SP-2004 series of 2002, which granted barangay length of service benefits to all elected officials who have served three terms.

Under the new measure, all barangay chairmen who have served three consecutive terms are entitled to a cash reward of P90,000, which is P60,000 more than what was provided for by the ordinance passed by the 26-member city council in 2002.

The Quezon City government will set aside P5 million for the grant of the additional incentive.

Also entitled to the benefit are barangay kagawads who have completed their three terms of office consecutively. As provided under the measure, each three-termer barangay kagawad shall be provided a financial assistance of P50,000, which is P30,000 more than what was previously provided to them by the city.
