MPD steps up hunt for 2 'killer' cops

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Police District (MPD) director Senior Superintendent Alex Gutierrez yesterday ordered a massive manhunt for two police officers involved in separate killings early this month.

Police Officer 1 Fulgencio Sideco of the National Capital Region Police Office is wanted for the April 2 killing of the father of PO2 Carlito Serrano of the MPD Station 1.

Sideco was among several men arrested for “indiscriminate firing” during the 2012 New Year revelry. He is also believed to be a drug user and a toughie in the neighborhood.

PO2 Rommel Fortuno, formerly assigned at the Caloocan City police and MPD Station 7, is wanted for the killing of SPO1 Rodrigo Llagas Cortez, Jr., a member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in February and pedicab driver Kim Tanyag in Tondo, Manila on Saturday. Fortuno’s partner, “Cindy,” left him for Cortez. Tanyag is Cindy’s cousin. Fortuno has reportedly been trying to find his former partner.
