MANILA, Philippines - A group of motorcycle manufacturers has called on the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to allot another non-exclusive lane for motorcycles on EDSA.
In a letter to MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino last Feb. 27, the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) said the existing motorcycle lane is dangerous for motorcycle riders.
“The lane is used by private vehicles that (motorcycle) riders revert to lane splitting or use other lanes especially during heavy traffic. A single non-exclusive lane prevents faster motorcycles from overtaking slow moving four-wheeled vehicles, making them vulnerable to traffic violations and safety risks,” MDPPA said.
Last month, the Motorcycle Philippines Federation, the country’s largest federation of motorcyclists, also asked the MMDA to allot an extra lane on EDSA for motorcycles.
