Doctor hurt in QC fire

MANILA, Philippines - A doctor was hurt when she tried to save her belongings from a fire of still unknown origin that destroyed her brand new Toyota Avanza and the house she had been renting in Barangay N.S. Amoranto, Quezon City Monday night.

Dr. Grace Martinez suffered burns on her head, back and hands, Senior Fire Officer 2 Fortunato Alde said. She is currently confined at the Chinese General Hospital.

He said around P1 million worth of property was destroyed by the fire, which started at around 6:18 p.m. at the ground floor of the house. Martinez had just arrived home when she found the house burning.

The fire, which was put out at around 7:04 p.m., left only the basement untouched, Alde said.
