MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government has put up a breastfeeding station within the city hall compound to provide a venue for employees and visitors to feed their babies.
This is said to be part of the city’s campaign to promote breastfeeding among mothers in workplaces.
Mayor Herbert Bautista and Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte led city officials in opening the new facility, located at the inner ground floor of the legislative building. It can accommodate as many as 10 nursing mothers at any given time. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Health Undersecretary Teodoro Herbosa, who was invited as guest of honor, lauded the city government for the initiative.
The World Health Organization recommends that babies should be breastfed exclusively for six months.
