2 hurt in San Juan blaze

MANILA, Philippines - Two people were hurt in a one-hour fire that destroyed 12 houses and rendered 70 families homeless in San Juan yesterday.

Damage to property was placed at P800,000.

Lourdes Bautista and her sister, Maria Rosario, sustained minor injuries and were sent home after being treated at a nearby hospital.

The fire started at an apartment building along San Jose Street, arson investigators said.

The fire reached the second alarm but was put under control by responding firemen from San Juan and nearby cities an hour later.

Arson investigators are still trying to find what caused the fire.
