MANILA, Philippines - A Caloocan resident who was high on drugs strayed into Malabon City and was beaten up by residents when he tried to break into the house of former city councilor Edilberto Torres before dawn yesterday.
Village watchmen Rafael de la Cruz and Rodolfo Cruz – who brought tricycle driver Benjamin Sevilla, 31, to the police station – said residents chanced upon the suspect climbing the fence of Torres’ house at around 4:30 a.m.
Sevilla admitted that he intended to break into the house. Torres’ daughter, incumbent Councilor Maricar Torres, said she will not press charges.
Police, however, found a sachet of shabu in Sevilla’s pocket and booked him for possession of illegal drugs.
